American Bear
Strange rules they have down south of the border when it comes to playing the game we created. In Duluth Minnesota this past week the Bull Dogs were hosting the Bemidji State Beavers in what was looking like a route for the canines. It was also their Teddy Bear toss game whereupon the first bulldog goal being scored would result in all the fans throwing their teddy bears and toys onto the ice to help support the local santa anonymous campaign.
However, much to the chagrin of the Bulldog faithful, some unnamed attendant, we suspect a Beaver in disguise, chose to throw one of the friendly furry fellows when the next bulldog goal was scored. This resulted in a penalty to the maroon and gold and a powerplay goal for the beavers which started their ultimate comeback in the game. They took it in overtime 6-5.
I can understand a rule that would allow an official to have someone thrown out of the arena for abuse of an official or for throwing foreign objects on to the ice. But how on earth can you ever be certain that the offending fan in the stands is rooting for the penalized club. Such a rule is just asking to be abused, as it may have been in this case, to give the visiting squad a man advantage. I think the WCHA needs to look at this rule and change it. And for the love of Christmas, surly the attending official could have used his discretion and not called a penalty given the wonderful cause that was being ambassadored by the hockey club. Perhaps in the future when this official is calling games at the DECC the penalty box crew should be chanting S-C-R-O-O-O-O-O-G-E!!!!!!!!
Ba Hum bug.

Seriously, no offese. My blog with "hot or not" is just a silly thing.
The penalty for throwing stuff is stupid. The Mavericks got one a few years ago, for a dead gopher being thrown on the ice. Interesting, because a Gopher player got onto the ice and threw it back into the stands (it hit an older lady right in the face..nice) but HE didn't get into trouble...instead the Mavs did for it being thrown in the first place.
I agree with your point. How can these refs prove it's a certain team's fan?
When tUMD swept the Gophers and tDogs fans threw brooms, one of the Gopher players (can't remember whom) threw the broom back and hit a Gopher fan in the face with it.
They're all psychos.
Never had a penalty called up here for stuff like that. But when the Kodiaks were down three games to one in the ajhl final 2 years back, and came back to win game 6 in Fort Mc to even the series, all the baron fans littered the team with garbage and water bottles. It was intersting because their coach boris rybalka made the boys stay on the ice and then salute their 150 fans in the stands that cheered louder than the 1500 baron fans in the stands. It was quite a scene.
